William “Bill” Trahan, CFP®, joined Carroll Financial in January 2004 as a partner. Bill serves as an Executive Vice President and Financial Advisor of CFA, Inc. Bill has a special interest in investment management and retirement income planning and has over 25 years of experience advising clients. His focus on asset allocation, research and investment planning allows him to take an individual approach to each client’s needs and goals.
Bill is a graduate of the University of Central Florida and earned a Masters degree in Business Management and Education from Appalachian State University. He earned the Certified Financial PlannerTM (CFP®) designation in 1988, his Certified Retirement Counselor (CRC) designation in 2003, and his Registered Financial Consultant (RFC®) in 2016.
Prior to joining Carroll Financial, Bill was a founding principal and served as Director of Investment Planning and Research for TriCapital Financial Group, Inc., and previously held various executive positions with large financial service organizations. He is a past President of the NC Financial Planning Association and is involved in professional community organizations. Bill has also published financial articles in various publications including The New York Post, the Charlotte Observer, the Association for Financial Planners and USA Today. Bill received special recognition in Charlotte magazine annually since 2008 as a Five-Star Wealth Manager.
A longtime member of the Charlotte community, Bill is active in his church and has served on its finance committee and currently sits on its Health and Wellness Committee. Bill previously served on the Finance Committee of Aldersgate, a United Methodist Retirement Community from 2011-2013, and was a member of the Aldersgate Board of Directors from 2013-2014. He has also served on the Appalachian State University Alumni Corporate Committee, ASU McKinney Alumni Center and 21st Century Committee. Bill is a former member of The Board of Directors for Carmel Country Club and has been Chairman of Junior Golf for many years. For more than a decade, Bill has been an avid supporter of LifeShare of the Carolinas, a nonprofit public awareness organization for organ donation. LifeShare appointed Bill as an Ambassador with the Carolinas Healthcare System throughout western North Carolina. He was also a past Chairman of the Save a Life Group for the Charlotte area. Bill is the proud father of a daughter, twin sons, and four stepsons.
The Five Star Wealth Management Award identifies 7% of wealth managers within a local region who score highest in client satisfaction.
