“I think our clients find comfort in the fact that while they will only retire once, we’ve been through the process many times.”
Although he formally began his career at Carroll Financial Associates, Inc. in 1998, Kris Carroll’s interest in investment management started much earlier. As the son of two CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioners, he spent many evenings at the dinner table listening to his parents talk about the markets, investments, and helping their clients plan for retirement. Growing up in this environment and working summers in his father’s office, Kris developed a homegrown passion for problem solving, whether pure mathematics or developing financial solutions for clients.
Now Chief Investment Officer at Carroll Financial, one of the Charlotte region’s oldest and largest financial planning and investment management firms, Kris works closely with pre-retirees and retirees with a specific focus on retirement income planning.
A Chartered Financial Analyst® and Certified Financial Planner™ practitioner, Kris holds a M.S. in Financial Mathematics from the University of Chicago and MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is currently pursuing his doctorate in Financial and Retirement Income Planning from The American College. His research interests include the study of optimal asset allocation for portfolios in withdrawals and dynamic withdrawal strategies in retirement.
Kris is the author of Common Sense Retirement Income, a monthly e-newsletter that provides pre-retirees and retirees with a better understanding of retirement income planning. He has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, The Charlotte Observer, Charlotte Business Journal, FiduciaryNews.com, and other online financial publications. Currently, he is writing his first book about creating simple and durable retirement income to potentially last a lifetime.
An adjunct professor, Kris teaches financial planning at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C., where he is also active on the College of Business Administration’s Advisory Committee. Kris serves on the board of the North Carolina Council for Economic Education, which recently received a grant from The Foundation for Financial Planning to provide financial literacy information to educators and students in North Carolina.
Kris and his wife, Tricia, live in Charlotte with their son Harlan and daughter Violet. Kris enjoys helping the next generation understand the importance of financial stewardship. He speaks at various youth organizations in the region and to students at local elementary schools, middle schools, high schools and universities.
